A good antique early 19th century Zanzibar or Omani teak and studwork dowry chest, circa 1820.
These chests were made made throughout the Arab world, this is an early 19th century version made of teak & elaborately decorated with brass studwork, skillfully arranged in geometric patterns. The lid having hand-forged pierced work iron strap hinges to the inside, to the right side is a till with a hinged lid for candles or valuables, to each side is a hand-forged brass carrying handle with shaped back plates. The chest is robust and solid and could even be used as a seat or bench, the interior is clean & aroma free and will provide great storage for bedding or clothing, condition is very good.
