Antique 17th Century Baroque, Netherlandish/Flemish Gilt Wood Triptych Painting, egg tempera on panel, circa 1650, "Saint Tobias and The Angel". The gilt wood case with iron strap hinges and gilded decoration, the central panel painted with an allegory of Saint Tobias. The triptych evidently influenced by the Italian Renaissance work of Verrocchio's altar painting of St.Tobias, circa 1470. The left wing painted with a knight in armor holding half a pomegranate and a sword (the protection of fertility and chastity). The panel to the right decorated with a female figure sowing seeds (to signify new life and growth). Artist unknown, provenance from a private New York collection, condition is very good.
