An unusually diminutive Georgian inlaid mahogany bureau, slant front desk, circa 1780.
This is a rare & unusually diminutive Georgian mahogany bureau, the fall front with a brass escutcheon and original key, the front having boxwood & ebony string inlay & satinwood inlaid floral corner spandrels. Below are three graduated drawers with corresponding line inlay, the fall front having a pair of pull out lopers to support the fall front writing surface. The interior is fitted with five pigeon holes and four inlaid small drawers below. The desk is raised on shaped bracket feet, the desk has the original 'batwing' shaped brasses, handles & lock escutcheons. The drawer linings & other secondary woods are white oak & pine, the back panels are champhered. The desk is very finely made from the best mahogany, it is just a cut above many late 18th century bureaus and is a fabulous compact size, this lovely desk is ready to grace your home.
