SOLD A very rare antique American Wooton/ Indianapolis cabinet company triple roll top quarter sawn oak desk, circa 1890. In 1885 the Wooton Manufacturing Company suffered a devastating fire and moved production of a few of their designs to the Indianapolis Cabinet Company until their closure in the 1890's.
The desk having a gallery to the top with carved & turned ball finials, below is a locking tambour/roll-top with a fitted interior having 21 original card files and to the right six horizontal files with the original 1890's patented "Besly Lexicon System" filing indexes inside.
The main body of the desk also with a tambour roll-top enclosing nine pigeon holes & two drawers and two carved pen slides to the center. The twin pedestal base having twin candle slides above four graduated drawers to each side and a unique feature of a sliding tambour/roll-top cabinet to the center. The sliding tambour having a fitted interior of four horizontal and four vertical files, the rear of the desk is fully finished and paneled so the desk can be easily positioned in the middle of a room rather than against a wall. The desk is easily disassembled into three sections for ease of movement.
The desk is a very rare, possibly a unique example of it's kind and is in excellent condition.
