Antique bronze statue of Narcissus by Michele Amodio (1817-1913) Italy, 1862.

Amodio was an Italian artist and foundry owner active in the mid to late 19th century. This Neapolitan bronze figure of Narcissus was cast by the lost wax method after a statue from antiquity that was found in an archeological dig at Pompeii in 1862, the original bronze is housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
The bronze depicts the hunter Narcissus, who was known for his beauty and despite rejecting all romantic advances he eventually fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water, the bronze stands on a circular base with a leaf cast rim.
The bronze is in good condition.
