A Fine antique French gilded bronze lidded urn/wine cooler, Napoleon III period, in the style of Claude Michel Clodion, circa 1870.

This very elegant urn is made of patinated bronze with gilded accents, the lid having a reclining putto. The body of the urn with a frieze of putti engaged in a Bacchanalian feast with a goat featuring to the center of the celebration, in Greco-Roman antiquity Dionysius or Bacchus was often portrayed from childhood riding a goat. The vessel having twin gilt bronze handles cast as fruiting grape vines and the urn is raised on a turned pedestal foot with a variegated dark green marble base.
