(Sold) A rare & unusual antique Japanese Meiji period, carved scholar's brush pot, circa 1880.
The brush pot is very fineley carved with a 'Greek Key' design to the top, the body of the pot is carved with a stylised wave design, a large sea serpent with inlaid ivory eyes is hunting a giant squid depicted on the rear of the pot. There is a large fish present also with an inlaid ivory eye, the badse has an interlocking wave design, the brush pot stands on four shaped feet.
A good and unusual antique Meiji period carved brush pot, carved with fantastic sea creatures.
