A good antique American Arts & Crafts carved oak rocking chair, carved with an image of Ben Franklin, by the George Arndt Chair Company, Dansville New York, circa 1900.
George Arndt was a talented carver and cabinet maker, making chairs from around 1900-1914, he produced chairs & settees with ornately carved backs, many with historical & biblical scenes. This rocking chair is made of quarter sawn oak and depicts Benjamin Franklin playing the viola da gamba, a cello like instrument, ironically Franklin was also credited with inventing the rocking chair.
The chair having turned supports with scrolled arms and a circular seat, turned legs and supports and raised on rocking slides. The chair is very comfortable and provides great lumbar support, the rocker has a smooth rocking motion and is in excellent sturdy condition, this very handsome & unusual rocking chair is ready to grace your home.
