This is a set of six original Cesca chairs designed by Marcel Breuer & made by Knoll International, each chair with the original Knoll label, New York 1973.
This iconic chair was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928, since then there have only been three official manufacturers of the chair, Thonet from 1927, Gavina (who represented Bruer's designs) in the 1950s and Knoll acquired Gavina in 1968. If a Cesca chair is not labeled Knoll International from 1968 onwards it is not an original Cesca chair design!
This set of six Cesca chairs are in excellent condition, the caning has been professionally replaced by hand with over 180 hours of labor in Bloomsbury's workshops, with original materials used by the manufacturer, the chrome and wood frames are also in great condition.
This great set of original Cesca chairs are ready to grace your space.
Protégé of Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer embodied many of the School's distinctive concepts and was and one of the School's most famous students. He returned to teach carpentry from 1925-1928, during which he designed the tubular-steel furniture collection. His attention drifted towards architecture, and after practicing privately, he worked as a professor at Harvard's School of Design under Gropius. Breuer was also honored as the first architect to be the sole artist to be exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
