An extremely rare English Queen Anne period child's carved elm plank coffer chest, dated 1706, Ex-Christie's .
This very rare coffer was sold at the high profile Christie's auction of stock from Huntington Antiques on May 27th 1999 in London, lot # 382.
The chest made of solid elm and of diminutive size and is richly carved throughout with chip and gouge-carved geometric decoration of concentric circles, hearts, diamonds and stylised flowers. The chest is initialled and dated to the front below the original iron lockplate; " W T 1706", the lid with the original snipe hinges enclosing a single candle till, both the lid and twin panels to the front are well carved.
The coffer having carved paneled sides and is raised on the original shaped stile feet with spandrel brackets above.
Condition is very good indeed, this rare antique coffer/chest is ready to grace your space.
