A very fine & monumental pair of late 19th century Porcelain lidded urns on pedestals by Carl Thieme (Potschappel) circa 1880.
The urns are in three three sections & are very lavishly decorated, each lid having a gilded finial modeled as a coronet, to each side is a winged putto with an armorial crest to the center and floral appliques to the base of the lid. The globular bodies of the vases are finely hand-painted with mythological scenes from antiquity, to each side is a seated maiden with a floral basket, the rear of each vase is hand-painted with a beautiful floral panel. The vases are raised on gilded socle bases with appliqued floral decoration and stand on plinths with four feet with appliqued flower decoration, the vases are both marked with spurious 'Sevres' blue interlaced L's and ironically below have Carl Thieme's red mark "CT" monogram.
Provenance; From the estate of a gentleman, Atlanta, Georgia.
The vases are really in remarkable condition and of monumental size, there seems to be no noticeable damage or restoration. Bloomsbury Fine Art & Antiques ship globally and we pack to the very highest standards to ensure that your purchase arrives safe & sound.
