The interior of the chest with a brass plaque "C. F. Hancock, Son & Co Silversmiths & Jewelers 38 & 39 Bruton St, New Bond St London". Hancocks were one of the premier jewelers & suppliers of silverware to the English nobility in the 19th century and are still in business today.
The chest came original from Highclere Castle and had passed through the Fernside family from an ancestor who was in service at Highclere Castle in the late 1800s.
The chest is in excellent condition, no damage or condition issues, if you dont have a hoard of country house silver the chest would make excellent storage for bedding, clothes, or anything you chose?
