An rare Georgian sterling silver filigree bougie box, chamberstick, circa 1780. A "bougie box" was a cylindrical container holding a coiled wax taper, mostly used for light often as a nighttime chamberstick. This very elegant silver bougie box is of cylindrical shape and is finely constructed from silver filigree. The box with its original lid and a hinged handle, the original candle snuffer is also present and attaches to the box with a hook. There is a vacant oval cartouche on the front, free from a monogram or crest. Condition is very good indeed, weight 30 grams of silver.
