A good antique American Chippendale tilt-top mahogany table or candlestand, Philadelphia, circa 1770.
The table having a circular 'dished' top that is also a tilt-top and locks into place with the original hand cut steel locking mechanism, the table having a turned pedestal column with 'barley twist' carving and a twist carved baluster below. The table is raised on a tripod base with three cabriole legs terminating to pad feet with ribbed carving to the sides.
Condition is very good, mostly original finish, no damage or restoration, this elegant antique American table is ready to grace your space.
Provenance; From the Muir family who had settled in Philadelphia in the mid 1700s, the table had passed in the family by descent and was recently acquired from Ms Maya Muir.
