A fine late 19th century antique French painted & gilded mechanical Cylinder desk, by Paul Sormani, circa 1875.
This very elegant antique cylinder desk by one of the preeminent French cabinet makers of the late 19th century. The desk having a mechanical auction when the drawer is opened the cylinder top retracts to reveal a recessed pen storage area and two removable glass inkwells, both original to the desk. The fold out writing surface having polychrome painted decoration of bowed ribbons with colorful floral garlands below, with a green baize writing surface, the writing slope lifts up to reveal a storage area for documents.
To the front the desk is fitted with a single locking drawer (original key is present), the desk is raised on ribbed & turned legs with gilded decoration and terminate to the original brass casters. The desk has a very pleasing lacquered finish with flecks of gold, condition is very good throughout, this very attractive & elegant desk is ready to grace your space.
