A good antique Charles II carved oak bible box, desk on stand, circa 1680.
The box and stand in two sections, the bible box having a hinged lid with a ledged sloped writing surface, locking with a key and brass escutcheon. The front of the box is deeply carved with two stylided floral devices to the center & flanked with stylized tulips with scrolling foliate.
The bible box is raised on a later stand most likely late 18th central but of traditional joined & pegged joinery.
The box and stand are in good condition, about 350 years old and still very useable, sturdy and robust, a good piece of late 1600s vernacular English furniture.
