A magnificent and fine pair of antique Country House flame mahogany bookcases / bibliotheques, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster, circa 1880.

During the late 19th century Gillows Co., were providing furniture of a very high quality to aristocratic houses in England, Europe and the States. This impressive pair of bookcases were made for a stately home in the Northeast of England, created from the finest high quality solid flame mahogany.

Each bookcase is comprised of three parts, crown, glazed middle bookcase section and the base with three drawers and three cupboard doors. Each top having a dentil molding, the middle sections with three astragal glazed doors and the central door having an oval panel with a carved fleur de lis decoration to the top and bottom. The bookcases having the original adjustable shelves, each base with three drawers and three cupboard doors below with carved panels and raised on plinth bases, each bookcase retails the original gilded brass handles and escutcheons and keys.

Condition is excellent, a fine and rare pair of antique country house library bookcases, circa 1880.
