A rare & unusual antique 19th Century American three section tall carved oak roll top file cabinet, by Cameron Amberg Co., dated 1883.
This rare & unusual tall antique filing cabinet is in three sections, to the top is a carved removable crown, with a scrolled fan shaped pediment to the center, surrounded with six ball finials and a turned spindled gallery below. The top section of the cabinet has the written legend in gilded letters; " Amberg's Patent Cabinet Letter File", fitted with a tambour locking roll top and enclosing 16 legal letter size drawers. Each drawer is fitted with the original brass oval label holders/nameplates, the drawers open and close with ease and are fitted with clips to keep documents in place, one of the drawers is dated 1883.
The base cabinet having twin doors enclosing a single shelf, the cabinet is raised on a plinth base and is made from solid finely figured oak. Condition is remarkable, this rare antique file cabinet is in excellent antique condition and is ready to grace your home or office.
The cabinet has just lovingly received a wax polish in Bloomsbury's professional workshops, it has a rich, warm honey colored patina.
Amberg & Co were founded in 1868 and were pioneers in the manufacture of fine office furniture, in 1875 Amberg received the award from the American Institure in New York for its cabinet letter files, In 1876 it won a gold medal at the Centennial Exposition in Philidelphia.
