Antique Impressionist Painting of Ibiza by the American Artist Martin Baer (1894-1961), 1935. Baer was born in Chicago and his early career was based in Germany, North Africa, and Paris. He returned to the US in 1940 and settled in San Francisco. After studying in Europe, Martin and his brother moved to Algeria where he undertook many works depicting the local topography and peoples. Baer had exhibited at the Avant-Garde Gallery Jeune Peinture in Paris before leaving to live on the island of Ibiza from 1934-36 with his wife, Janina Liszkowska. This painting depicting a very impressionistic image of the island in 1935 and housed in a gilded frame.
