Antique Oil on Canvas Painting Jean-Michel Cels (1819–1894), Circa 1850. A finely painted river scene with trees and mountainous landscape behind. The painting having one figure walking down the river bank, the painting signed lower right and housed in a gilt and hardwood frame.

Jean-Michel Cels was a Belgian landscape painter born in the Hague as the son of the painter Cornelis Cels, who taught him to paint. He was the brother of the architect Josse Cels.
