"David Apres le Combat" by Antonin Mercie (1845-1916), bronze statue with the original ormolu & red Languedoc marble pedestal, circa 1880. The bronze depicting David, victorious, with his sword held high and his foot resting on the head of the vanquished Goliath. The bronze signed "A. Mercie" to the base.

Antonin Mercie was born in Toulouse and studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Alexandre Falguiere & Francois Jouffray, in 1868 Mercie won the Grand Prix in Rome. Mercie was both a talented sculptor and painter, his works are widely exhibited throughout prominent galleries in Europe and the United States. Mercie also has public monuments in the States, such as the equestrian bronze of Gen. Robert E Lee on Monument Ave, Richmond Virginia as well as monuments in Washington D.C. and Baltimore Maryland. The lifesize original bronze of David is housed at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

Condition of the bronze & column is excellent.
