A fine antique Scottish watercolor seascape painting of Dunollie Castle, Oban, Scotland, by William Wollard, Edinburgh, circa 1890.
This very attractive painting of Dunollie castle ruins on the west coast of Scotland in the town of Oban in the county of Argyll & Bute, it depicts the waves of the Atlantic crashing onto the rocks below the castle. Above the waves is a flock of gulls, the painting is titled lower right "Hunt of the Seamews" (another name for seagulls) and is signed lower left "Wm. Woolard Edinburgh", artist's label to the verso.
The painting is in excellent condition and is housed under glass in the original gilded rococo frame, this very appealing antique painting is ready to hang on your wall.
William Woolard was a well known Scottish painter who lived in Edinburgh, he showed 2 works at the Glasgow Institute of The Fine Arts, and 23 paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy, and 2 works at the Royal Scottish Society Of Painters in Watercolours. His works are in many private collections and Scottish public galleries including the Aberdeen City Gallery
