Antique Orientalist Painting of Cairo, Egypt by Anton 'Tony' Binder (1868-1944), Oil on Panel, circa 1895. The painting depicting a village scene in Cairo with a mosque and trees to the background, to the foreground a scene of village life with locals going about their daily business. The painting signed, "Tony Binder," lower left and housed in the original carved hardwood frame.

Anton 'Tony' Binder was born in Vienna in 1868. He studied at Academies in Vienna and Munich, but later lived in Alexandria, Egypt. He traveled throughout Egypt, went to Istanbul, Venice, Italy and France, gathering material for his paintings, but is most known for his Orientalist paintings, which achieve the highest prices! Binder was well renowned for his views of Cairo and other parts of Egypt, he did so with insight & demonstrated an ability to capture the light in his paintings. He died in Nordlingen, Bavaria, in 1944.
