A good & whimsical oil on canvas painting by the Irish painter William P. Rogers (fl 1846-1872). The work depicts a fisherman mending his nets, with baskets & ropes to the foreground and fishing vessels & other fishermen to the background. Housed in the original gilded frame with a name-plate to the base of the frame.   

Rogers was an Irish artist who is best known for his landscape and coastal subjects. Rogers studied art at the Royal Dublin Society's Drawing School, winning prizes there in 1850 and 1852.
He exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin between 1848-1872, mostly of Wicklow and Wexford scenes, including two Scenes in the County of Wexford.

A large number of works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Low tide' and "A Fair Wind off Dover" sold at Christie's South Kensington 'British and Victorian Paintings' & Maritime Paintings.
