Antique Japanese Lacquer Pen Scribe's Calligraphy Set and Case, Meiji Period, Circa 1880. The case made of black lacquer and decorated externally with gold as a stylized river, the case enclosing an ink stone and ivory stylus with engraved Japanese calligraphy. The case is signed internally and also with a chop mark to the exterior. The pen set is housed in a pine box, also annotated with Japanese calligraphy.
