A very elegant & charming antique sterling silver miniature locket vinaigrette by James Fenton, Birmingham, 1872.
This miniature vinaigrette would have been worn as a locket on a chain, it is finely engraved with floral & engine turned decoration. The hinged lid enlosing an engraved and pierced hinged grille to receive a sponge with fragrant scent, a necessity with the stench of English cities in Victorian England. The back of the case is also decorated with engine turning. The vinaigrette is hallmarked to the underside of the lid and also to the base under the grille, with James Fenton's mark and the letter "X" for 1872 and the anchor for Birmingham.
Condition is excellent, silver weight 13 grams.
