This early-20th Century Japanese Meiji period solid silver water dragon photo frame is of exceptional quality, chased, embossed, repousse work & applied with a pair of water dragons in very high relief with applied flowing whiskers, the exterior border with similar repousse decoration of fruiting vines. To the interior & under glass is the original blue textured satin backing, the frame can be hung on the wall with the original brass fittings or displayed table top as an easel. Tested (925+ silver standard), Meiji period (1868-1912).
Dragons are very auspicious in many Asian cultures and not least the culture of Japan, this a beautiful antique silver frame to display a photo of a loved one or a treasured picture, the picture opening is 6.5" tall x 4.5" wide.
