A fine antique bronze Art Nouveau / Secessionist figural lamp by Gustav Gurschner (1873-1970), signed, circa 1905.
The lamp modeled as a lilly, with an organic stem rising from a lilly pad and terminating to an iridescent gold glass lamp shade (possibly by the Loetz glassworks), a beautiful Art Nouveau nude maiden is draped around the lamp stem.
The lamp is signed to the underside "Gurschner", the lamp has been professionally rewired to American code, this exquisite Art Nouveau bronze lamp is ready to grace & illuminate your space.
Gustav Gurschner was an Austrian sculptor, medallist, and artisan who made a significant impact on Viennese craftsmanship around 1900.
He trained at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, he also studied in Munich and Paris before settling permanently in Vienna from 1898 onwards.
Gurschner became especially renowned for his finely crafted bronze, including lamps, furniture fittings, door handles, and small sculptures that elegantly combined art and function. Gurschner’s designs are distinguished by organic lines, archaic forms and ornaments, and exceptional craftsmanship.
He was closely associated with the Vienna Secession, he exhibited regularly with the movement and gained international recognition, notably through his participation in the 1900 Paris World’s Fair.
