An outstanding, fine, antique Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) Satsuma Millefleur pottery bowl, by Hakusan, circa 1890.
This outstanding Satsuma bowl is very finely handpainted & gilded in a Millefleur (thousand flower) pattern. The bowl is painted to both the exterior & interior, the interior with many beautifully painted flowers of many shapes, sizes & colors, the interior is also very finely gilded.
The bowl is raised upon a shallow circular foor with a band of gilding, and a second band in black with overlapping concentric oval gilded devices, the outside of the bowl is also very finely painted with a thousand flower design.
The bowl is signed Hakusan, hand scripted in a simple outlined lozenge to the base, this was a small factory but produced very consistent high quality Satsuma pottery in the late 19th century Meiji period.
The bowl is of larger size and is in excellent condition, no damage or restoration, the painted & gilded decoration is also excellent in appearance.
