Condition is excellent, a very fine example of French Art Deco cameo glass by one of the leading makers of the era.
Charles Schneider was a French glass artist who lived from 1881 to 1953. He worked in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles and was known for his intricate and unique glass designs.
Schneider was born in Château-Thierry, France and began his career as a glassmaker in 1902. He worked for various glass companies before joining the Daum glassworks in Nancy, France in 1918. While at Daum, Schneider worked alongside other well-known glass artists, such as Henri Bergé and François Décorchemont.
In 1925, Schneider left Daum to start his own glass company in Épinay-sur-Seine, France. He worked with his brother Ernest, who was an accomplished glassmaker in his own right. Together, they created some of the most beautiful and innovative glass pieces of the Art Deco period.
Schneider's glass designs were characterized by their bold colors, intricate patterns, and sculptural forms. He often used a technique called "pâte de verre," in which glass paste is applied to a mold and then fired in a kiln to create a finished piece.
Schneider's work was exhibited at the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, which was a seminal event in the development of the Art Deco style. He went on to exhibit his work at several other international exhibitions and his pieces are now highly sought after by collectors around the world.
