Antique American R J Horner Quarter Sawn Oak Carved Griffin Desk / China Hutch, circa 1890 

A good antique American carved quarter sawn oak 'Griffin' china hutch/secretary desk, in the manner of R J Horner and Co, circa 1890. The hutch having a carved floral crest above a twin arched canopy which is supported by a pair of carved winged griffins, the back of the cabinet having a beveled oval mirror to the left and a shaped mirror to the right. The to left of the hutch is a bow-fronted glass china cabinet enclosing three shelves. To the right is a fall-front secretary with a carved urn and foliate design to the front and containing a fitted interior, below is a bank of three serpentine shaped drawers. The cabinet is raised on carved lion's paw feet, all the original brass hardware and key is present. This cabinet is in excellent condition and is both practical with lots of storage and features all the wonderful carved ornament of the master cabinetmaker of the late 19th century.
