A very fine, spectacular antique Italian oil on canvas screen/room divider, circa 1860.
The four fold screen is very finely painted with an Italian fishing/harbor scene, the base is painted with Trompe L'oeil tiles having Neoclassical devices at each end depicting a bellflower garland enclosing a rosette, to the center is a cornucopia enclosed in a laurel wreath and a pheonix rising from a greek kylix.
The quality of the painting is is very fine indeed, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Mediteranean sea, with fisherman and a young maiden carrying a basket aloft. There are several small fishing boats in the bay as well as one tall ship with five sails and a village to the background.
The screen is in very good condition indeed, there is overall cracquelure to each panel. No damage or restoration noted and the screen is ready to grace your home.
