A very fine quality antique French Louis XV rosewood, marquetry, ormolu and marble topped secretaire abattant, circa 1880.
The serpentine shaped secretary is modeled as a semainier ( seven drawer chest), the feather-banded rosewood case is sumptuously inlaid with floral fruitwood marquetry on the front and sides. The top has the original white Carrara marble, the secretary/chest has very finely cast gilded bronze mounts, including a pair of crowned heads supporting the top. The first three 'dummy' drawers form a fall front enclosing a fitted desk with a pair of drawers and two shelves, the fall front has the original blue velvet writing surface, the cabinet is raised on a shaped curved plinth base.
The depth of the cabinet when open is 27".
Condition is very good, possibly one of the best quality Secretaire a Abattants of it's kind one will see!
