A fine & important antique American Classical Cuban mahogany & parcel-gilt marble circular marble top center pedestal table, New York, circa 1825.
The circular top having a substantial white marble top with a smooth rounded edge, the flame mahogany skirt having a reverse rounded molding and the base of the skirt having a stenciled gilded frieze with an 'X & dot' decoration. The substantial circular pedestal sits in a gilded cuff with a lobed tripod base and raised on ornately carved reeded & foliate feet with the original casters. The table is in very good original condition and is ready to grace your home.

The table is almost certainly by the hand of Duncan Phyfe, there is a very similar table housed in the collection of the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum located in the Bronx New York, with which it shares many design features, please see the last image in the pictures section to see the Bartow-Pell Mansion table, which is also attributed to Duncan Phyfe.
Classical furniture of the first quarter on the 19th century was heavily influenced by Greco-Roman classical antiquity, and was certainly influenced with the excavations of Pompeii & Herculaneum in the mid to late 1700s
