A very fine antique Georgian Sheraton period inlaid mahogany bureau bookcase/butler's secretary, circa 1810.
This bureau bookcase is of the very highest quality and is of diminutive size, the bookcase secretary is made of figured Cuban mahogany & is beautifully inlaid with satinwood & fruitwood marquetry inlay.
The desk & bookcase is in two sections, to the top is a 'Swan's Neck' pediment inlaid with floral rosettes and flowering marquetry, below are a pair of astragal glazed doors, the doors inlaid with satinwood stringing and enclose two shelves.
The base having four drawers; the top drawer inlaid with corresponding floral marquetry and a hinged fall front that opens and locks into place smoothly and easily, the fall front provides a flat writing surface. The interior is fitted with six pigeon holes & three drawers each with the original gilded cast brass circular pulls, the three drawers below are crossbanded with satinwood and all have the original gilded brass handles.
The secretary is raised on outswept French bracket feet & joined by a curved shaped skirt, condition is truly excellent and totally original, including the finish, and of a great diminutive size.
