An important antique English Jacobean carved oak court cupboard, from the reign of King Charles I, dated 1630.
The rectangular overhanging top with a carved arcaded frieze, to the center the cabinet has the carved date of 1630, the top supported by a pair of turned baluster shaped columnar supports. The columns flank five panels with lozenge shape carving, two of the panels are in fact doors enclosing a storage area. 
The cupboard base having a carved frieze with semi-spherical devices, to the center are a pair of carved corresponding lozenges, flanked by a pair of doors also with carved lozenge decoration, the doors enclosing a single shelf.
The sides of the cabinet are paneled, the cabinet is raised on stile feet, door hardware later antique replacements. The cabinet is in very good condition, it is structurally very sturdy & robust, it has a warm mellow honey patina and has just lovingly received a wax polish in Bloomsbury's workshops.
