A good & large antique English early Georgian oak ‘Mule Chest’ coffer, circa 1740.
A very good sized antique mule chest from the Lancashire area, located in the Northwest of England & from the middle part of the reign of King George II. The hinged lid with hand-forged iron strap hinges enclosing a generous storage area for clothing or bedding, to the left is a lidded candle till with a hand-forged lock and two small drawers below. The front of the chest has the original brass 'bat-wing' shaped escutcheon lock-plate and below are four arched shaped fielded panels & below are three drawers with corresponding bat-wing handles. The sides of the chest are also decorated with twin fielded panels, the chest is raised on six ogee shaped bracket feet.
Excellent color & condition, the interior is clean & aroma free, this very handsome chest has been lovingly waxed in Bloomsbury's workshops, the chest is very sturdy and robust, excellent antique condition and ready to grace your space.
