Antique Monumental Italian Renaissance Carrara Marble Statue/Bust of Johanna Albrizzi, Circa 1860. The statue finely carved in Carrara marble and most likely by Giovanni Bastianini (Italian, 1830-1868). The bust carved in the manner of Francesco da Laurana (Italian, 1430-1500). The bust being a depiction of Johanna Albrizzi, a Florentine noblewoman from the 15th century. The bust being finely carved of the Renaissance maiden wearing a lace cap with her hair parted in the middle and curls to the side wearing a floral medallion around her neck, and wearing a textured bodice. To the base, carved on a ribbon is the Latin inscription, "Pvella-Johanna-Flor-Gratia."
Whilst the bust is made of pure white Carrara marble, images were taken to enhance shadows and the bust is not stained nor discolored.
An almost identical bust sold at Bonham's in London for $15,000, though that bust showed significant damage.
