An important silver & silver gilt engraved and repousse work presentation cup, by London maker's Edward, Edward Jr, John and William Barnard, dated 1831. An exquisite presentation cup having a flared mouth, the front of the cup decorated with a repousse work depiction of the Roman Goddess of Agriculture and fertility, Ceres. She is holding a cornucopia and ears of wheat, to her left are the tools of farming, a plough, a hoe a shovel and a haystack. To her right is a rake and a scythe with a bushel of wheat and a cow and her calf to the background, below are oak leaves and floral decoration. The cup terminating to an octagonal foot with a scalloped rim, the interior of the cup having a gold wash, to the top are the hallmarks for London 1831 and the makers mark. This was almost certainly a special commission, the cup is free from any engraved dedication or monogram, the quality is outstanding as is the condition, Silver weight: 19.5 oz
