A fine antique sterling silver-gilt early 19th century Vinaigrette, Birmingham, by Gervase Wheeler, 1839.
This beautiful vinaigrette having fine engine turned decoration on all sides, with a shield shaped cartouche to the lid and an engraved floral clasp to the front. The silver gilt interior having a pierced and engraved hinged cover which would have received a sponge with aromatic scent to smell, rather than the foul smell of the city!
Both the interior of the lid and the interior of the base are hallmarked for Gervase Wheeler, Birmingham, 1839.
This very fine vinaigrette from only the second year of Queens Victoria's reign is in excellent condition, silver weight 20 grams.
