A good antique Imperial Russian Art Nouveau engraved kovsh, Moscow circa 1900.
The kovsh is a Russian traditional drinking vessel or ladle, a boat shaped vessel with a single handle , wooden versions have been excavated from as early as the 10th century.
This unusual kovsh is engraved in the Art Nouveau style with an organic lily floral design, it is made totally of silver many are silver with enamel decoration, it has the Russian assayers and maker's marks on both the handle and the base. The maker's marks are unknown but the vessel as the kokoshnik mark for the Moscow assayer Ivan Sergevich Lebedkin who was active from 1898-1914.
The vessel is in very good condition, silver weight is 72 grams.
