Antique Expressionist Painting of Ibiza by the American Artist Martin Baer (1894-1961), 1935. Baer was born in Chicago and early in his career he was based in Germany, North Africa, and Paris. He returned to the US in 1940 and settled in San Francisco. After studying in Europe, Martin and his brother moved to Algeria where he undertook many works depicting the local topography and peoples. Baer had exhibited at the Avant-Garde Gallery Jeune Peinture in Paris before leaving to live on the island of Ibiza from 1934-36 with his wife, Janina Liszkowska. This mixed media painting of watercolor & gouache depicting a very expressionistic image of the island in 1935 and housed in a gilded frame, "Martin Baer 1935 Ibiza Baleares".
