A rare & large ancient Chinese Ming Dynasty cast iron Buddha statue, 14th century.
The Buddha seated in a meditative dhyanasana pose with downcast eyes and with hands in dhyana mudra and seated upon a double lotus throne, the Buddha with a tall pronounced ushnisha, the symbol of of his enlightenment & enthronement.
Early Chinese Ming dynasty statues were sometimes cast in iron rather than bronze, this statue is in good condition there are a couple of original casting cracks but the integrity of the statue is tight and robust, the statue is large at over 22.5" tall and weighs over 42 lbs.
Provenance; acquired from a member of The Movement Center, Portland Oregon, which was a center for spiritual practice of meditation & yoga, influenced by the practices of Buddhism & Hinduism.
