A very attractive antique Georgian sterling silver & gilt engraved snuff box by Thomas Evans of London, dated 1783.
The hinged lid with engine turned decoration and a vacant rectangular cartouche to the center (no initials or monogram), the clasp is finely engraved with a floral design, the box closes tightly and opens with ease.
The egdes of the box having a ribbed design and the interior with gilt decoration. Hallmarked twice to the interior, base and top, with Thomas Evans mark and the date letter for 1783, the panther mask for London and the head of the monarch George III, and lion passant for sterling silver. The box is in excellent condition, no damage or repair, a truly outstanding example of a Georgian sterling silver snuff box.
