Incredibly rare & monumental antique Mamluk Nasrid Islamic pottery copper lustre candlestick, circa 1870. This incredible pottery candlestick follows the the form of a 14th Century Mamluk period inlaid brass candlestick from Syria. The lustre glaze follows pottery made by the Muslims in Spain during the Nasrid dynasties of the 13th Century to the 15th Century.

The candlestick having a stepped and flared candle holder, with bands of blue, cream and copper glaze, to the center is a band of pseudo Kufic calligraphy, the stem and top of the candlestick is decorated with a blue, cream and copper lustre geometric design. The base with two corresponding bands of cream calligraphy, with a central cartouche on a blue ground of two gazelles and a circular panel with Naskh style calligraphy, highlighted with copper lustre glaze.

This handmade candlestick is of a monumental size and is in excellent condition. Possibly made by Cantagalli workshop or another European pottery as an exhibition piece, a rare and unique object.
