A fine carved antique Italian walnut Sgabello Renaissance Revival side chair, circa 1870.

The chair is very finely carved, the chair back with a carved, fluted domed shaped finial with a beaded cuff below. The back is carved with a shield shaped armorial that is flanked with a pair of beautifully carved putti, below the chair is deeply carved with scrolls & acanthus leaves.
The seat with a gadrooned edge and a 'dished' seat and twin stretchers with conforming gadrooned edging, the base of the chair also is finely carved with scrolling acanthus and a pair of masks of the Greek god Pan.
The chair is in excellent condition, is is both robust & stable and very comfortable, the quality of the carving is superlative, a piece of sculpture for your room. This very beautiful antique chair is ready to grace your space.
