An antique late 18th century Georgian oak & brass, combined document & strong box or campaign chest, Scottish, circa 1780.
This very substantial oak chest made in the late 1700s most likely in Scotland, the chest is fitted with brass corner brackets to each & every corner and a corresponding brass lockplate to the top.
The chest is fitted with the original hand cut steel lock & very robust inset steel strap hinges, the original key is present and the lock turns with ease. The lock secures a fall front that is supported by telescopic arms, the chest is fitted with one long & four short drawers, all fitted with the original circular brass pulls, the drawers run smooth and have an airtight fit!
The chest is of substantial size & construction, it is very robust indeed, there are brass carrying handles to each side and takes two strong individuals to carry the chest.
Condition is remarkable for a cabinet from the late 1700s, the chest has the original finish and fittings and is ready to grace your space.
