Antique Italian late 17th century leather on pine carriage chest/trunk, with brass stud-work, circa 1680.
This rare survivor from the late baroque period of the 1600s was made in the Tuscany region of Italy, the dome topped chest with a pine wooden carcass covered in brown leather. The dome hinged top is decorated with brass stud-work panels; the two central panels with star shaped motifs the end panels with stylized heraldic shields, the base of the chest with corresponding decoration and hand forged iron carrying handles to each side.
The framework of the chest is made of Tuscan white pine, the interior has just been lined with a block printed canvas fabric in Bloomsbury's professional workshops, the interior of the chest is clean and aroma free and ready to store clothing, bedding or anything that you care to store inside.
The chest is sturdy and robust there are some historic repairs to the leather, it is in very good condition for a chest that is 350 years old, and ready to use and grace your space.
