A very elegant antique 19th century KPM porcelain hand-painted & gilded lidded bowl/tureen, decorated with birds & butterflies, 1840-1895.
This very handsome lidded tureen made by the acclaimed German porcelain maker KPM  (Konigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur), having a shaped & gilded finial to the lid and finely hand-painted with brightly colored woodland birds and butterflies. The bowl having twin gilded handles naturalistically modeled as tree branches with gilded leaves, the bowl painted with corresponding decoration of exotic birds and butterflies, the lid & bowl rim and foot having bands of gilded decoration. Raised on a circular shaped foot and marked to the base with the underglaze blue scepter & orb mark and the letters KPM, this mark was only used from 1840-1895.
Condition is excellent, no damage or restoration noted.
